Here are some of the accomplishments of the U.S. attorney's office for the Northern District of Indiana during James Richmond's term.

* Operation Bar Tab, the investigation of alleged drunken driving ticket fixing in the Lake County courts. Among those convicted were Lake County Clerk Edward Lukawski, Judge Steven Bielak and Deputy Prosecutor Nickolas Morfas.

* Operation Lights Out, an investigation of corruption in Lake County government. Convictions included Sheriff Rudy Bartolomei, Commissioner N. Atterson Spann, Commissioner Frank A.J. Stodola, County Assessor Michael Jankovich and Tri-City Community Mental Health Center Director Glenn Kuipers.

* Gary Manpower Administration, an investigation of fraud in the federal job training program. Convictions included Job Training Director Saranettia Lang-Lampkin, Gary Manpower Chief Robert Montgomery and Gary Manpower Administrator Ronald Sullivan.

* Drug trafficking and corruption in police and fire departments. Convictions included Sgt. Ronald Jackson and four others on the East Chicago Police Department, and three people on the Gary Fire Department.

* Other public corruption investigations. Convictions included Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Mokol Sr. and video game operator Reginald Kinkade.

* Organized crime indictments. Fifteen people were arrested in December, including reputed Northwest Indiana crime kingpins Dominic "Tootsie" Palermo, Nicholas "Nicky" Guzzino and Peter A. "Cadillac Pete" Petros.
